Problem
When my team met with author Gail Curtis about creating the cover design for her new book of futuristic dystopian short stories, “Visions From the Edge,” we were excited about the opportunity. The stories, speculative fiction dealing with societal control, squandered opportunities and lost dreams, cried out for artwork as edgy as it was captivating.
Process
- Held a kickoff meeting with the design team to give a creative brief and throw around ideas.
- Individual design team members worked sketches and concepts.
- Held design team reviews and narrowed down to three concepts.
- Worked with client director to revise and finalize cover design.
Solution
My team all went to work coming up with concepts, and while three preliminary designs were in the running, Gail ultimately chose the one you see here. It’s at once on the nose and metaphorical, a compelling combination when it comes to “Visions From the Edge.”
